I got a good deal on a system with Windows 10 Home with the plan on using one of my many license keys to upgrade it to Windows 10 Pro. However, when I try to change the product key I get the error 0xcf Fully updating the system or going through the store didn’t work either.
I also attempted to reinstall with some generic windows 10 media that I got from MS’s website. For everyone else, Home is not a qualifying license. As the volume license is only an upgrade, and upgrade means from older Windows Pro to current Windows Pro, it does not apply to a Home installation and is useless here.
You have to upgrade to Pro before you can apply a volume license. Unless, as I said above, you have Educational licensing. Then you can use it to Upgrade from Home. And because I know the next question will be “I don’t have education licensing. What’s the cheapest way to get a Pro license? The product key only works for that media. If after install, you have issues, you will need to call Microsoft to assist you in activation.
As we’ve said above, OP doesn’t have a qualifying license. While he can certainly install the VL it won’t be a legitimate license. Well we are a non-profit, would it still be illegitimate? Out of curiosity, why do you have ‘many’ Windows 10 VL keys? You would only buy more than one if you were upgrading from another OS 7 Pro, for instance and you would use each license when you did the upgrade. It doesn’t make sense to have a bunch of extras.
Or, I should say, I can’t think of a valid reason to have them. As for the situation, I’ve already refunded the item and purchased a system with 10 Pro already on it.
